Section
8
Section 8 Program provides families with a "Housing Choice
Voucher," to provide very-low income families affordable
housing choices. The housing choice voucher program is the federal
government's
program for assisting very low-income families, the elderly, and
the disabled to afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing in
the
private market. Since housing assistance is provided on behalf
of the family or individual, participants are able to find their
own
housing, including single-family homes, townhouses and apartments.
Unlike public housing assistance apartments which have specific
locations, the family who has a housing voucher is free to take
that voucher anywhere in the country to lease private housing;
as long as the housing meets the requirements of the program:
safe,
decent, and affordable.
NBHA is currently managing a housing choice voucher assistance
program of approximately 810 vouchers.
