New Brunswick Housing Authority
Hosts Days of Caring 2005
(NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) – The New Brunswick Housing
Authority (NBHA) announces Days of Caring 2005 scheduled for Monday,
May 2nd from 9:45am to 4:15pm at the Schwartz-Robeson Village Complex.
A rain date of Tuesday May 3rd @ 9:45am is scheduled if necessary.
Partnering with the NBHA will be the Robeson-Schwartz Tenant Association,
UMDNJ and the NBPS Adult Learning Center who will sponsor the New
Jersey Youth Corps of Middlesex County. Since 1998, the New Brunswick
Housing Authority has been actively seeking partnerships with recognized
organizations to empower its residents through formalized training
programs and community volunteer activities. John Clarke, NBHA
Executive Director noted, “The Days of Caring event provides
adults and kids with an opportunity to better their community while
having fun. This event is just another example of how residents
and the Housing Authority can work together to make a better future
for all families in our public housing properties and improve the
neighborhood all at once.”
The activities scheduled will be broken down into the following:
Planting flowers and small shrubs; cleaning (raking) the area around
the planting beds and painting eight (8) large plant and tree pots/holders.
John Walton, Crew Supervisor for the New Jersey Youth Corps of
Middlesex County noted, “The New Jersey Youth Corps of Middlesex
County is proud to partner with the City of New Brunswick and its
Housing Authority to help improve their communities. We are also
very eager to recruit youth volunteers from New Brunswick who are
committed to bettering their communities through civic service.
Their dedication and determination will ensure the continued success
of New Brunswick.”
The successes of the Days of Caring activities are in large part
due to the effectiveness of the NBHA staff. Schwartz-Robeson Tenant
Association President Yvonne Weeks stated, “It is extremely
gratifying to work with people who care about their job, and to
see the positive efforts of the residents, who take part in the
planning process as well.”
