PROGRAM OVERVIEW
A. |
Graduating Senior Grant (up to $2500)- to
be awarded to a graduating senior or other qualified applicant
planning on attending an accredited college or university. |
B. |
Middlesex County College Grant (up to $1500) -to be awarded
to a student planning to attend Middlesex County College. |
C. |
Trade School Grant (up to $1000) - to be awarded to any eligible
resident planning on attending an officially recognized trade
school. |
D. |
Continuing Student Grant (up to $1000) -to be awarded
to any eligible resident currently enrolled in an accredited
college or officially recognized trade school. |
E. |
Ken Jones Grant (up to $2500)- to be awarded to a graduating
senior or other qualified applicant planning on attending an
accredited college or university. |
F. |
Community Leader Award - to be awarded to an outstanding
member of the public housing community who’s leadership
has moved residents toward self-sufficiency and helped to
make our public housing community a better place to live. |

PROGRAM REQUIREMENT
All applicant must meet the following criteria:
A.

Must be a current resident of New Brunswick
Public Housing or a
recipient of the HOPE VI Relocation Program.
|
B.
|
Must provide the Scholarship Committee with at least
two letters of recommendation; One (1) letter from your current
school (teacher or guidance counselor) and one (1) letter
from a member of the community.
|
C.
|
Must provide a one (1) page essay entitled “Why
I want to continue my education”.
|
D.
|
Must complete, sign, date, and submit the Scholarship
application in full by the required deadline date.
|
E.
|
If accepted as a scholarship recipient, must provide
proof of acceptance and registration to College or University
or a trade school prior to receiving funds.
|
F.
|
Must attend a private interview if required by the
scholarship committee.
|
*Program requirements may be adjusted to meet
special needs of applicants upon approval of the Scholarship Committee.

SPECIFIC AWARD REQUIREMENTS
In addition to the general program requirements, the following
criteria must be met and documentation provided by the applicant*
A.

Graduating Senior Grant & Ken
Jones Grant (up to $2500)- applicant must have an overall
GPA of at least 2.0 and provide a copy of their complete
high school transcripts and be planning on registering for
at least 6 credits per semester.

B.
|
Middlesex County College Grant (up to $1500)- applicant
must have an overall GPA of at least 2.0, provide a copy
of their complete high school transcripts, and be planning
on registering for at least 6 credits per semester.

C.
|
Trade School Grant (up to $1000)- applicant must provide
up to date academic records and a brief description of the
skills they hope to acquire through education.
|
D.
|
Continuing Student Grant (up to $1000)- applicant must
provide up to date college transcripts, maintain a GPA of
at least 2.0, and be carrying an average of 6 credits per
semester.
|
E.
|
Community Leader Award – applicant must be a
current lease holding public housing tenants (or HOPE VI
Relocation Program tenant on record with NBHA’s HOPE
VI Program) who has worked or volunteered to help residents
of public housing move toward self-sufficiency.
|
*If the applicant is selected
to receive a scholarship award, he or she has 30 days to provide
the NBHA all
necessary documents needed to process the award to the university/college/trade
school of their choice. All applicants must be current on all money’s
owed to the NBHA within thirty (30) days of this award or they
will be determined to be ineligible.
*Program requirement may be adjusted to meet special needs of applicants
upon approval of the Scholarship Committee.

SELECTION CRITERIA
A Selection Committee, comprised of community leaders, will select
the winners of the scholarships. The following represents the importance
given to each of the criteria the judges will take into consideration:

Termination/Revision Clause:
The Scholarship Committee reserves the right to make revisions
and/or terminate this program at any time with the approval of
the Board of Commissioners. All applicants must be current on
all money’s owed to the NBHA within thirty (30) days of
this award or they will be determined to be ineligible.
All applications
must be received at the Housing Authority’s main office
located at 270 George Street, New Brunswick, NJ 08901, Attn:
Maria Martinez. No applications will be accepted at any other
office of the Housing Authority. Applicants may request a receipt
for deliver of their applications, from Ms. Maria Martinez directly
at the main office during regular business hours (8:30am to 4:30pm,
Monday-Friday).
